Longarm 101

Longarm 101 is your starting point for confident quilting on the Handi Quilter Moxie Quilting System. This foundational class prepares you for free motion longarm rental by guiding you step by step through the full setup process.

You will learn how to properly prepare your quilt top, backing, and batting before loading onto the frame, including sizing considerations and simple prep techniques that help prevent issues later.

During class, you will practice loading a quilt onto the frame, aligning each layer correctly, advancing the quilt smoothly, and understanding the fundamentals of tension setup. We will cover thread selection, needle basics, and how tension works on a longarm system so you can quilt with confidence.

You will also become familiar with your Longarm 101 Kit, including how to use the bobbin case, properly oil the machine, insert needles, wind a bobbin, and thread the machine from start to finish.

By the end of this class, you will have practiced:

• Preparing quilt layers for longarm quilting
• Loading backing, batting, and quilt top
• Threading the Handi Quilter Moxie
• Winding and inserting a bobbin
• Making basic tension adjustments
• Advancing the quilt on the frame

This class builds the confidence and essential skills you need before scheduling independent longarm rental time.

Longarm 101 Kit
The Longarm 101 Kit is a required purchase with the class. It includes your own bobbin case, longarm pins, oiler, three bobbins, and a pack of longarm needles to get you started. The kit also includes your first day of longarm rental, which must be completed within 30 days of your class.

Longarm Rental Policy
To maintain confidence and safety on the machine, you must schedule longarm rental at least once every three months. If more than three months pass without a rental session, you will be required to retake the Longarm 101 class before renting again.
